Between two fingers, so frail as paper,
Turns a thin stage-curtain line, mouth-and-lips --
Ink exhaling some mesmeric vapor,
Gossamer kisses on his fingertips;
Her cheeks flushed, white and nonpareil tan,
Open, like the white flutes of devil’s breath --
Three coins for her body, crisp in his hand,
Forty pages of her faceless, blank like death;
His slurry kisses staining her paper-cheek,
He downs her, like wine, week after week.
